My Story
Hi - Rider here, founder of Embodi. You’re probably wondering why I’ve spent all of my time for the past year and a half building free resources (Release DPDR, Dissociation Therapists) to support people with DPDR.
You guessed it - I have been working through chronic DPDR. More specifically depersonalization which I’ve been experiencing for 4 years now. The symptoms started gradually, but after a year it was clear that I was a different person.
While I used to have tons of energy, an insatiable curiosity, and lots of empathy, I felt like a completely different person. Empty, without purpose, no ability to or interest in solving problems, and no emotional connection to anything. I was a true shell of myself.
I spent the next 3 years figuring out what happened to me and how to recover. After numerous tests, I found out that I had DPDR and began a journey to figure out how to recover. I’ve tried almost everything at this point.
I've found a lot of practices that help manage my symptoms, but the one thing I've struggled with most in my recovery is isolation. It's impossible to describe what DPDR is like to someone who has never experienced it.
So, I'm building Embodi Group Recovery to change that. Not only will you have an experienced therapist guiding you, you get to recover with people that get you.
I've almost recovered.
So, while I’m building this for you, I’m also building this for me.

Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t feel comfortable sharing sensitive information in a group setting. Is embodi for me? Sharing in a group can seem frightening, especially when discussing deeply personal topics. Embodi groups are specifically designed to ensure that each group member knows what you’re going through. While daunting at first, sharing in a group of people that deeply understand you can be quite comforting.
What if I don’t get along with everyone else? Embodi groups are thoughtfully designed to create the best group dynamic. If you are not meshing well with your group, we will help you find another one.
Will this be as effective as individual therapy? Embodi groups are not a substitute for therapy, but are their own vehicle for learning and growing past DPDR in a community. Disconnection is one of the most paralyzing core components of DPDR. We believe that the Embodi group model gives you the best of both worlds - a guide with expertise from their work as a therapist, and a tailored peer community for collective learning and support to learn to reconnect to yourself and the world.
How much does this cost? Each session costs $50 and enrollment is understood as a commitment to all 12 weeks. As a courtesy, you will be billed monthly. Because Embodi groups are not therapy, we cannot accept insurance as payment.
How do you assemble each Embodi group? We thoughtfully design each group to create the best group dynamic. We consider your DPDR catalyst, type and length symptoms, and any other identities that are important to you. We then match you with peers who can relate to your experiences in order to promote a sense of belonging and, at the same time, give you a recovery program that is unique to you.
How much work is required every week? Embodi is an intensive recovery program that builds on itself each week. You will be expected to attend each of the 12 weekly sessions and heavily encouraged to complete the weekly homework to get the most out of the program and launch you into ongoing recovery from DPDR. Outside of sessions, you are free to communicate with your group members as much or as little as you’d like!
Will I recover at the end of 12 weeks? We cannot guarantee individualized results; however, we can promise to provide you with a roadmap to recovery tailored to your lived experience, connection to a group of people that you can reach out to for support, and the guidance of an expert in the field of DPDR. Following your 12 weeks, you will be given the option to continue to invest in your recovery through a menu of ongoing groups at Embodi, a referral to one of our trusted DPDR therapists, and the toolkit in our growing online resources.
Are sessions virtual or in-person? All sessions are virtual, so you can conveniently attend from anywhere. We highly recommend that you reserve a private, comfortable space from which to attend your weekly groups.
